One of the most in influential rock guitarists of all time, Eddie came up with his own style and sound that made everybody stop in their tracks to listen. He and his brother Alex, along with David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony were known as Van Halen. Eddie was a“tinkerer” and built this guitar shown in the photo( known as”Frankenstrat”)along with many others. Frankenstrat was based on the Fender Stratocaster. He liked the sound of a Gibson Les Paul, but found the Fender to be less bulky and easier to wield on stage especially when he would go leaping through the air. He combined the two with the electronics from the Gibson in stalled the Fender body. He also personalized it with the striping which became synonymous with Eddie. It truly was a work of art. When I was growing up in the 80’s, Van Halen was my favorite band predominantly because of Eddie. I love guitar and he was the reason why I picked it up in the first place. His work inspired me to build this guitar as a tribute to him. Eddie died on October 6 2020 from a long battle with cancer. He was 65. Please enjoy the upcoming section on what I went through to do this highly detailed and visually complex piece. I had only about 12 photos or so to work off of and no way for hard measurements. After 9 months it was finished and ready to play. It sounds great.
