Meet John Bull. He was the U.K. equivalent to Uncle Sam.
He came to my shop in need of some care and reinfocement. He was hand carved from hard pine by a craftsman in the mid 1970’s.
Right side coat and running through to the thigh area was a large split.
The area was filled, gently hand sanded and colored to match the surrounding areas.
After photo showing the thigh and pelvic area.
Right side top hat.
Completed.
Base and boots were scuffed and worn.
Boots are set.
Final on the base and boots.
Final on all and ready for delivery.
Back at home and feeling good. The hardest part was getting the color right. I had to do it in stages letting one color dry before putting the next over that to achieve the right look without being too dark or too light against the original color.
This door face was faded due to sun damage. It needed to be stripped, colored to match the interior side, and then finished. The interior side was fine, so I was very careful not harm it in any way.
The scree door face was also faded and needed the same attention as the Front door.
Final here and ready to go.
Casings were stripped, sanded, stained, and finished in place.
All set with new color and uv protectant urethane finish on all that will last for many years to come.
Screen door in place and ready to go.
Slightly different angle front screen door.
